Official grand opening scheduled for June

The Lyric Theater’s much anticipated soft-opening in Overtown attracted prominent Black figures to its ribbon cutting ceremony held on February 6th.
The event honored sponsors and patrons who contributed to the Lyric Theater’s renovation.
Guests watched a viewing of the Black Miami, a documentary by Carlton Smith on Blacks’ role in creating the Magic City.
Black Archives founder, Dr. Dorothy Fields along with County Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson and City Commissioner Keon Hardemon participated in the ribbon-cutting.
The Black Archives goal for the Lyric Theater, according to its executive director Timothy Barber “is to put Overtown back on the map as an entertainment and cultural hub.”
