Abstract

This collection is a single file containing the identification card of one Samuel George Jones. The card was issued in 1951 by the Miami Beach Police Deprartment. Like many African Americans in the South, Mr. Jones was required to have an identification card with him in order to show proof of employment in a white area of the city. Similar identification cards were issued until the 1970s.
