Brief Description: This collection documents the career of Josephine Mackey, educator, from 1940 to 1975, donated by Josephine Mackey in 1980. Mackey was the first principal at Nathan Young Elementary School in Opa-Locka, where she worked 12 years. The collection consists of certificates, photos, programs, memorandums, letters, and newspaper articles.

Biographical Note for Mackey , Josephine : Josephine D. Mackey was the first principle at Nathan Young Elementary School (formerly known as the East Opa-Locka Elementary School), located in the Opa-Locka community, from 1960 through 1972. She was active in many social and civic organizations. Mackey was named "Woman of the Year"in 1974 by the Opa-Locka City  Commission for her "tremendous  unselfish activities in behalf of the less fortunate."
